Professional development lawyer
Trust law and related areas

We are looking for a lawyer to fulfil a new role as a professional development lawyer. This is a support role requiring research, writing and presentation skills. The position is
part-time with the option of flexible hours.

Applicants will need prior experience in legal practice or academia and experience in trusts, tax and related areas would be helpful.

  1. The overall objective of the position is to assist with the development of the know-how, skills, expertise and market profile of the firm and individual authors.  This is a part time position with the option of flexible hours.
  2. The specific tasks of the position are the following:
    1. monitor new developments in the areas of law affecting the firm’s practice and periodically update authors by means of written and oral communications, such as memoranda to authors on legal issues and oral briefings at staff training meetings;
    2. establish (as required), maintain and update from time to time the following:
      1. collection of seminar and conference materials;
      2. collection of opinions and firm created written resources;
      3. collection of one-off precedents;
    3. supervise library, oversee acquisition of books and other materials for the library including online library services;
    4. monitor law reform initiatives including proposed new bills of Parliament and Law Commission initiatives and prepare or assist with the preparation of submissions on proposed changes;
    5. carry out research and writing tasks on areas of law identified by partners as areas requiring further investigation and research for the benefit of the firm;
    6. prepare and disseminate client newsletters and other client communications and assist with the collation and maintenance of mailing lists;
    7. assist authors prepare for internal and external presentations by carrying out research, preparing drafts of papers, preparing PowerPoint slides, etc;
    8. present training seminars at TGT training sessions on technical legal issues, as required;
    9. manage the firm’s precedents, ensure their integrity, review precedents with partners and staff and update them as required;
    10. organise periodic precedent discussion meetings, establish an agenda, monitor progress and tasks allocated to authors and promote progress in the development of new precedents;
    11. assist organisers of regular training sessions and discussion sessions with the organisation of those sessions, as required;
    12. carry out such other tasks as may be delegated by the partners, where such tasks are supplementary or ancillary to the tasks mentioned above.
